Filtration should be determined by the system flow rate, emission device, water quality, and system operation. The filter size will be determined by the system flow rate and load. The emission device determines the degree of filtration needed to prevent mechanical plugging (most drip and micro systems require a minimum of 120 mesh to 150 mesh). Water quality will determine the type of filter. Clean water will not require as much as a dirty water source. The filter should always be selected for the highest load during operation (time of year). Last the operation of the filter (manual vs automatic) will be determined by backwash frequency (how often filter needs to be cleaned) and system operation. Filters should be cleaned base on a pressure differential no greater than 8 PSI. This means when the inlet pressure is 8 PSI higher than the outlet pressure it is time to clean the filter. Media filters need to be set on a timed backwash as well as a pressure differential due to the nature of the filter media (no longer than 6 hours). We have an experienced staff to help with your filter selection.
Media Filtration Recommended when there are organics present in the water source (an open body of water). At least two units should be plummed together so they can be backwashed with filtered water as shown in the diagram below.
Screen Filters Recommended for use when source is a well or municipal water with little trash present. Spin clean and automatic system are available where high loads are present.
Disc Filters Recommended for use when organics are present (an open body of water) with light loads. Automatic backwash systems are available for systems with high loads.
Sand Separators may be used to Spin/Sling out sand before entering a screen filter. This minimizes backwash cycles.
