Layflat is used for water transfer and irrigation header lines. The benifits of a good quality layflat over oval hose include; higher working pressure, price (3" and above), and ease of installation/removal.
It is common to use Layflat and Oval Hose in the same system to save money and extend product life.
Both can be driven over and use the same fittings.
A typical layout will use layflat from the pump to the field and transition to oval for the header.
When using layflat as the header the connection is generally a friction fit using a short piece of transfer tubing cut at an angle and forced into a small pilot hole.
Due to the nature of vinyl hose it is not recommended to use a barb connector for the transistion.
There are fittings available for a positive seal on layflat if required.

Oval Hose is used for header lines to supply drip tape, or other low pressure systems (21psi).
It is supierior to layflat for header line applications because hook-up and repairs are easier and cheaper as well as lasting longer.
Oval hose also uses the same fittings as layflat.
Oval hose may also be driven over to allow the field to be worked unlike aluminum or PVC lines.
